Costa Rica Fishing Tournaments

Costa Rica hosts several international fishing tournaments annually. Some celebrated events include the Lucas Oil Offshore World Championship and the Los Suenos Signature Triple Crown. In 2017, the first place position went to our good friends on-board the 38′ Custom.

There are very few places in the world that come close to what Los Suenos has to offer when it comes to sport fishing. Anglers across the globe consider Los Suenos the “Fishing Capital of the World.” The location is the preferred sport fishing destination due to its renowned billfish.

The Dorado Derby

This is a one-day team event with top honors going to the team that bags the heaviest dorado in the tournament. The Dorado Derby is an annual event and takes place every November. At the end of the event, the organizers award cash and other prizes to the first, second, and third-placed teams with the most massive dorado.

Quepos Billfish Cup

Marina Pez Vela Championship Series Event / IGFA Tournament – Gun Division.

This is a two-day team event where teams with the most billfish release points at the end of the tournament get top-team honors. Marina Pez Vela Open

This event is a two-day sportfishing event that pairs with several other fishing tournaments in Costa Rica.
Two New Divisions:

  • The Gun Division: Participants have to catch and release their billfish all by themselves. International Game Fish Association rules apply.
  • The Fun Division: In this division, charter crews can help hook a fish before passing the rod to anglers. Boats of all sizes are allowed to participate.

Annual Pelagic Rockstar Offshore Tournament

This is a team event with awards, cash, and prizes worth over 500,000 USD. Branded “Central America’s Largest and Richest Fishing Tournament,” the annual event sees teams travel from around the world to contest for the highly-prestigious title of Rockstar Offshore Tournament Grand Champion and bag some serious bucks. Signature Triple Crown

Battle Other Anglers in the Billfish Capital of the World.

Marina and Los Suenos Resort, located in Playa Herradura along the Central Pacific Coast, is proud and honored to sponsor the world’s most competitive billfish tournaments. The event’s story at Los Suenos started in 2004 as it was first held here. Sixteen-years down the line, the tournament has become one of the fiercest billfish events globally, drawing teams from Brazil, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Russia, The United States, and Venezuela.

The fishery in Los Suenos is unique, the ocean is mostly flat-calm, and the weather is enjoyable and temperate all-year-round. Combine these ingredients with a backdrop of the Los Suenos Resort, and what you get is a magical setting that can’t be replicated or found anywhere else in the world.
